Obituary
Joann L. O’Brien, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and active community member, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024. She was born on January 16, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, and throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many with her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit.
Joann shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Thomas O’Brien, and together they raised three daughters: Kelly Skole (Jack) of Wilmington, IL; Kathleen O’Brien of Jordan, NY; and Keri Zschach (Ken) of Plainfield, IL. She was a proud grandmother to Erin, Maddie, and Jack Skole, and Tom, Ken Jr., and Ryne Zschach. Joann is also survived by her brother, John (Este) Scheve of Naperville, IL. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leila Scheve, and her brother, Ron Sandberg.
Joann worked over 20 years at a grocery store in Woodridge, IL, where she became a cornerstone of the community while raising her family. She was passionate about staying active and participated in various community groups, including the Royal Neighbors, the Midwest Club, and local social activities such as line dancing, the Kitchen Band, mahjong, bocce ball, and card games.
A very social person, Joann had a gift for striking up a conversation with anyone she met. She and Thomas shared a love for traveling, with their trips to explore National Parks being some of their most treasured memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice at the Mike Conley Hospice House, 2100 Oakley Seaver Boulevard, Clermont, FL 34711, in Joann’s honor.
Joann will be remembered for her big heart, engaging personality, and dedication to her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
