Obituary
Joanne McKinley Gunter of Port Orange, Florida passed away January 1, 2021. Ms. Gunter was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 1, 1935. She was employed by Southern Bell until her retirement in 1987 after more than 30 years of service. During retirement, Joanne lived in Midtown Atlanta where she devoted her time caring for her parents, worked temporary jobs, and enjoyed traveling with friends. In 2002, she followed her dream of moving to Florida, choosing Port Orange after falling in love with the Daytona area while vacationing there.
Ms. Gunter was an avid animal lover. She always had a place in her heart for animals of all kinds, wild and domestic. She especially loved her many little dogs that she spoiled completely as well as a few lucky cats and one very special horse.
Ms. Gunter was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Everett McKinley, Sr and May Ashley McKinley, her brother, Richard Everett McKinley, Jr., sister-in-law, Gwendine Price McKinley, and longtime friend, Carl Davis. She is survived by her nephew Billy McKinley, niece Beverly Smoak and husband Mike, niece Cynthia Thrower and husband Brad, special friend Karl Meek, several great nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Carla.
