John Steven Batchelor, age 77, of Port Orange, FL, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 after an extended battle with leukemia. He is survived by his wife of 41years, Margaret; his sister Linda Marvel; his sisters-in-law Marsha Batchelor and Jean Batchelor; his son Michael Batchelor; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roy Batchelor, Bill Batchelor and Joe Batchelor, as well as his sister Carol Rogers.
Born on December 6, 1945, in Alexandria, Virginia, John was the youngest of six children of parents Leroy and Bonnie Batchelor. He worked in the auto sales industry before he and Margaret moved to Florida in 2003. Together, they enjoyed exploring and traveling; Jamaica quickly became a favorite destination, where they made lasting friendships and memories. Although he certainly valued his privacy, John will be remembered as a warm, upbeat, fun-loving individual who enjoyed life. He had close relationships with his ex-daughter-in-law Paula Strohm and granddaughter Alex Strohm, and was devoted to the people around him, especially the love of his life, Margaret.
A celebration of life for John will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 am at New Hope Baptist Church, 1675 Taylor Road, Port Orange, Florida 32128, where John and Margaret were members. While there will not be a graveside service, John’s remains are interred at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 Route 1, Mims, Florida 32754. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the New Hope Baptist Church or the Halifax Humane Society.
