Thanks to Cousin Jack for helping us understand our family history. Jack/John was my Dad's (Larry/Loren Priest) first cousin. It was always a pleasure to talk with him and Pat. They were always such warm and loving people.

In Loving Memory of Cousin John.
First, I don't know why we didn't get the news. I feel bad and even guilty that I didn't know John had passed. I found out just last night that Cousin John Shirk Coffin had passed on Nov 30 and that his funeral was Dec 13.
I live in TN, and I have a place in the woods where I go pray. I went to this place this am and I had my peace with God and John there.
John was an interesting person to talk to. He knew so much about everything! He was a very independent man most of his life. Only near the end years he decided to go to assisted living. I was amazed how far he would travel! One time he came to my house in Nashville with his calico cat he loved so! He was unique. What I loved most of all was his gentle nature and the fact that he was VERY Patriotic. He LOVED his country. He loved God and believed in Jesus as his savior. He was a strong man who was helpful and kind. Nothing fake about John.
He pressed on after losing Pat, the love of his life. He never complained and kept the faith. I can't imagine the pain of loser her; but his faith kept him strong. John has gone on to be with Pat. I have no doubt he is in Heaven. He's where we want to be. It was a blessing to know cousin John. God Blessed him!

Jack/John was a first cousin to my Dad. He was a great historian and when staying with my family and I in Indiana he shared many wonderful life experiences. I always enjoyed my annual visits to New Smyrna Beach to catch up and to visit his beloved museum.

We loved Jack and so thankful to call him family. Now he and Pat are finally back together. He loved the Lord and was a good and faithful servant. We love you and miss you.

John was a cousin of mine who visited our family in Fort Wayne, IN on a few occasions in the 80's. He and Pat were a wonderful couple. My grandfather, Charles, who was living with us at the time, enjoyed talking about the Shirk family past with John. They were both quite good stewards of all things Shirk and it was a joy to see them together. John came to see us a few years later, after Pat had passed, and we spent some quality time talking about his life and history. He was such an engaging conversationalist, full of fun facts, and observations. We talked many times afterwards on the phone, right up until his passing. We will miss him. He was a good man. God Bless you John.
