Obituary

JOHN DIXON JR, 73, passed away on Thursday  March 30, 2017 at The Hospice House in Flagler Beach, Fl.  John was born on Sept 161943 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Theresa (Satriano) Dixon, Sr., who proceeded him in death.  John is also preceded in death by his Granddaughter Jessica Longacre. John grew up in Brooklyn NY. After Graduating High School, John joined the Navy to see the world and his first duty station was 90 miles from home at McGuire AFB in Trenton, N.J He received orders to Radioman “A” school in Bainbridge Md, then to the USS Seminole AKA-104. 3 trips to the Western Pacif and then to Vietnam convinced John to volunteer for submarine School.  After Sub School John spent the next 23 years serving on 7 different submarines and only 2 other duty stations where he was a sub school instructor.  In 2010 John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from AIU University.  John was a long-time member of The VFW Post 8696, as well as the Submarine Network Incorporated and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4481.

John married Vicky in 2009 in a backyard wedding at their home in Palm Coast, Fl. They were happily married for 8 years, and John had often said that he had married his true sole mate.

John is survived by wife, Vicky, His Daughter Kelly Miller (Dixon), Tracy Bybee (Dixon), her Husband Tony, Donna Lee Longacre (Dixon) & His Son John William Dixon III. Two Step-Sons, Joshua Collier and his wife Trinity and Peter Collier.  John was Blessed with 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.  John is also survived by numerous cousins, friends and shipmates.  Lastly John left behind their beloved Dog Bailey, whom never left his side, even as Johns health declined.  He will be missed and always will be loved by so many.

A memorial service/Celebration of his Life will be held at the VFW located at 47 Old Kings Rd N, Palm Coast, FL 32137 on Saturday Aug 5 2017 from 12pm-2pm

    My husband and John were radiomen on the Lafayette in the late 60s but opposite crews. John checked on we wives while our husbands were at sea and hand carried letters from our husbands exchanged during turnover. Condolescences to all of you.

    John and I worked at Submarine School in the early 1970's. We taught the Teletype maintenance course. John was a funny gregarious guy. He will be missed by all.

    John it was an Honor and such a treat to know you. I am so thrilled that you found your soulmate in Vicky. You two had that special something that mostcouples only aspire too.
