John, aka “Uncle Johnny”, was known for his sharp intellect, his sense of humor and his kind and generous spirit. He was a wonderful storyteller and an artist and musician. He played the bagpipes, violin and ukulele. He was active in an Orlando pipe band and played “Amazing Grace” at many weddings and funerals. And in later years, he took up oil painting and restoring old violins.
He also loved boating and fishing and spent many hours fishing the lakes of Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida.
John attended Eberwhite Elementary, Slauson Junior High and Ann Arbor High School (Class of 1962). He married Sandra on August 14, 1965. He was in the Navy in the mid-60’s aboard the USS Saratoga, then became an Air Traffic Controller, working at Green Bay Wisconsin’s Austin Straubel Airport and Chicago O’Hare Airport. Then he began a long career as a business owner of multiple Beltone Hearing Aid clinics, settling with Sandy in the Eustis area.
