Obituary
John F. Lemon died peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the age of 79 in the company of his wife and sons at his home in Sarasota, Florida. John is survived by his wife Gloria, son Michael and daughter-in-law Heather and grandson Jack of Essex, Vermont; son Pat and partner Loraina Abney of Essex, Vermont; brother Bob and wife Anita of Texas. John was predeceased by his parents Robert and Margaret Lemon, and sister Margaret Lemon. John was born on November 17, 1941 in Mamaroneck, New York. He was one of three children and grew up during simpler times in New York and rural East Haven, Vermont. John received his undergraduate degree from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont and his master’s degree in mathematics from Oregon State University. John was a devoted husband to his wife Gloria during their 57-year marriage. John’s calling in life was to educate youth and he met this calling with a commendable 39-year career at Rice High School in South Burlington, Vermont. Not only did he teach bright, wonderful minds, but he also served on the administration staff and in the athletic department during his time at Rice. Inevitably, if we say our last name locally, someone knows of John, was taught by John or had a child who was taught by John. His calling to teach and the many lives that he touched through education is his lasting legacy. Following his retirement, he enjoyed being with his family, playing cards with friends and cooking wonderful meals. He and Gloria relocated to sunny Sarasota, Florida in 2016 to enjoy warmer weather and a more relaxed lifestyle. There are no services being held at this time. My love, sympathy, and prayers are with you and your family. Our staff member John V. informed me at church today that John had died, shocking news. I have so often thought of John and the many wonderful years shared in the math department at Rice and on the Diocesan School Board. John was an amazing teacher and friend. Gloria, I am so very sorry. Just wish I could give you a hug.
In loving concern,
Sister Lucy Ploof
