John Phillip Luers (67), of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away with his wife by his side on February 15, 2022.  John was born on March 20, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland to Jeanne R. Luers (Ford) and  William J. Luers.  John graduated from Dulaney High School in 1972.  In 1980, John began a 37 year career working as an Insurance Adjuster. He was well respected by the companies he worked for which included Fireman’s Fund, Maryland Casualty, AA, Allstate and eventually retired from Encompass.

On November 11, 1991, John accomplished something that would define and enrich the rest of his life.  He overcame alcoholism and on November 11, 2021, he celebrated 30 years of sobriety.  John was very proud of this accomplishment.

Moving to Palm Coast, Florida to retire in 2017 was a wonderful  move. We always felt like we were on vacation.  One of our favorite things to do was walk the inlet to the ocean with our dog Minnie.  We would watch the nesting turtles that came in from the ocean to  lay their eggs.  It was amazing to be part of that nature.  John loved fishing and could now fish whenever he wanted to.  Our new community was an instant close “family” from day one of us moving here. John was active in our community, always volunteering to help out when he could.  He thoroughly embraced playing Pickleball, which gave us another close knit group to call “family”.  John always  had a passion to play Poker especially when he would visit Maryland and already have a game set up with his close friends Mark Dunk, Jack Thompson, Bernie Ruocco, and Bob Thompson.  John had so many friends it would be difficult to add them all.

His weekly talks with his brother Bill were the highlight of the week for him.  During this special time, they would usually end up discussing politics and get caught up sharing their busy lives with one another. They loved to reminisce about the “good ole” days.

John was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn Marie Argentino (Jody); his brother William J. Luers Jr. (Bill); and Bill’s wife  Cynthia (Cindy) R. Luers.  Bill’s three children: Rebecca Kudrow, Clinton Luers and Jennifer Sorensen and 3 great nieces, 6 great nephews and 2 great, great nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, March 17^th, 2022, at Holland Park in Palm Coast, Florida.
