Obituary
John David Palikapu Malo, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 7, 2018 at his home in Eustis, Florida. His viewing and memorial service will be held
July 16, 2018 at 4:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at
2615 Waycross Ave in Eustis Florida followed by a reception gathering immediately after in the multipurpose room.
Mr. Malo was born January 1, 1934, in Hilo, Hawaii to John and Kaiwa (Kauka) Malo, He attended Ricks College and enjoyed a short career as an architect. He then left his career in architecture to pursue his true love of music. His love of Jazz music was a major influence on the Hawaiian music he was to play for the rest of his musical career. He met his wife Ami (Luce) Malo in California while producing a show headed for Las Vegas. Together they produced Hawaiian and International productions around the world. In 1968, John and Ami traveled to Vietnam, Thailand, and Okinawa to entertain the troops during the Vietnam War. Their numerous dinner theaters and showrooms they played include; The Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu Hawaii, Coconut Grove in Hollywood California, The Circus Circus and Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, Kono Hawaii in California and Mauna Loa in Pennsylvania. John and Ami Malo were the creators of the “Hawaii in Pittsburgh” ensembles at Conley’s Motor Inn, The Holiday House and The Radisson Hotel.
John David Palikapu Malo, son of John David Malo and Kaiwa Iwa (Kauka) Malo brother of Geraldine Johnson, Yvonne Vantiger, Pualani Kaimikaua, David Malo, Alvin Malo, Betty Rapoza, Ivan Malo and is survived by his wife Ami (Luce) Malo, daughters Tanya Malo, Tami Reef, Theodore Evers, Keiwa Tomlinson, his son in-law Mark Tomlinson and his daughter-in-law Vika (Netane) Malo. He goes to join his son John Todd Kamohoalii Malo and his grandson Alifeleti Vaituulala, in heaven. His surviving grandchildren Christina Dangler, Shannon Reef, Jessica Reef, Brandon Reef, Kilistina Ho Ching, Laungaeiki Lesatele, Akilei Malo, Christian Tomlinson, Mark Tomlinson and Kiana Tomlinson. His great-grandchildren Emma Reef, Samantha Reef, Carissa Reef, Joseph Toloai Ho Ching and Kylo John Ho Ching
