Obituary

Cape Coral, Florida – John Patrick Martin, 69, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2023.  He was born November 28, 1953 in Portsmouth, VA, to William C. and Patricia (née Price) Martin, and raised in Glenville, NY.

John was a 1971 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School where he was a star soccer and baseball athlete.  He earned a degree in Ornamental Horticulture from the State University of New York Farmingdale.  It was at a Farmingdale social that he met his future wife, Teresa A. Fosta.  They were married in 1973 at Saint Anne’s Church on Long Island, NY and moved into a small apartment in Schenectady, NY while John was employed by Columbia Golf and Country Club in Claverack, NY.  Their son, Kevin, was born 1975 at Hudson Memorial Hospital.  With a move to Long Island, John was employed with Southward Ho Country Club.  They later moved to Glenville, NY where John worked with his father and brother in the family landscaping business, and thereafter served as the Glenville Highway Superintendent.  In 1998 John, Terry and Kevin moved to Cape Coral, FL where John was a driver for Conway/CSE/XPO.  He retired shortly after being diagnosed with Parkinsons.

John was immensely proud of his accomplishments with the Boy Scouts of America, having obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and having a long-standing engagement with Scouting National Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow.

John absolutely loved music (his record and tee-shirt collections are evidence of that) and was well-versed at playing the guitar.  Fly fishing was one of his passions, along with going to Saratoga Race Track.  One day, John ‘surprised’ his wife and “Hasty Jay” (a quarter horse) showed up in their back yard!  John enjoyed participating as a Header in rodeos and shared that passion with many friends.

(Funny for the family…he was supposed to go practice at the arena with a friend and ended up cancelling because he had an appointment for a perm!!!)

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Teresa Anne Martin; son, Kevin John Martin; mother, Patricia V. Martin; mother-in-law, Marion D. Fosta; siblings Judy K. Premerlani (William), Timothy W. Martin (Lynn), Daniel P. Martin (Nancy), Laurel E. Livingston (Michael), and Andrew H. Martin (Laurie); as well as several nieces and nephews.

John is predeceased in death by his father,William Chester Martin and great-nephew, Gage A. Livingston.

We would like to extend a special thanks to John’s aide (and friend), Danielle Marshall, with Assisting Hands, and the Gulf Coast Skilled Nursing Facility staff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

Memorial contributions in memory of John are suggested to:  The enGAGEd Foundation, Inc.; 6250 N Double J Acres Road, Labelle, FL  33935), the Parkinson’s Foundation, or a charity close to your heart.

Baldwin Brothers, Fort Myers, FL is entrusted with final care.

John Boy, you will be missed so much. It started as me being a caregiver for you to us becoming family. We had so many fun times and I will never forget the day you laughed so hard you spit all of tour gatorade all over me! You were the best jokester until I came along and as Terry would say “ I don’t know John, I think you have met your match, Danielle leaves you speechless quite often”! I hope your enjoying your cinnamon and bostom cream donuts up there! XOXO Love Always,
    Danielle
