Obituary
John Risser Musser, age 82 of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on March 15, 2024, at his home in Fort Myers.
Memorial services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, March 19, at First Assembly Ministries Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Dave Yannatone officiating. Burial will follow at a later time in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania.
John was born on September 7, 1941, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to John Lehnard and Edith Risser Musser. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in civil engineering. He married Charlotte Moore on December 28, 2019, in Captiva, Florida.
John worked as a civil engineer with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and a private firm in Atlanta before coming to Fort Myers in the 1980’s, eventually establishing his own civil engineering firm. After retiring in 2011, John continued as a consultant in civil engineering with Omega Consulting Group. He was a member with the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Florida Engineering Society, and the American Society of Highway Engineers. John was engineer of the year in 1993 and 1997 with the Calusa Chapter of the Florida Engineering Society, where he also received outstanding service in 2002. He was also a member of the local Rotary and enjoyed volunteering at the Harry Chapin Food Bank and at First Assembly Ministries. .
John was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Gretchen Hutsell and his sister, Mary Ann Kliner.
John is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Michael Musser; daughter-in-law, Colby Losey Musser; sister, Nancy Way; granddaughter, Abigail Musser; sisters-in-law, Joan Long, Marilyn Welshans, and Germaine Weaver, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Harry Chapin Food Bank, First Assembly Ministries Missions Department, or Fort Myers Christian School.
