Obituary

John Joseph Norton, 92, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away surrounded by his 2 daughters on January 16, 2022. John was born on January 1, 1930, in Putnam, Connecticut to Frances and Margaret Norton.

John received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Norwich Technical College, in Norwich, CT. He went on to have a career as a Machinist in the Defense and Aerospace field with the Hamilton Standard Corp. He was also a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served from 1950-1955 in the 169th Infantry Regiment, Master Sergeant. After his retirement, John worked part-time at Walmart and Publix, where he had a smile for everyone he met. There are many anonymous heroes among us, and John was one of them.

John was an avid long-distance runner and loved to go for long walks. He also enjoyed working out at the YMCA. John loved to read and had an extensive library. He also loved animals, bird watching, listening to swing music and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and cherished time spent with his grandson. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion. John was friendly to everyone he met. John will be dearly missed by his family and many friends, and he will always be in our hearts and memories.

John was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Margaret Norton, his wife, Dorothy Norton and their son, John F. Norton, and his brother, Frank Norton.

John is survived by his daughters, Laura E. Hess of Ormond Beach, FL and Suzanne N. Schinina of Ormond Beach, FL, his grandson and his wife, Anthony J. and Ashleigh Schinina of Cartersville, GA, his cousin, Elaine Chiccione of Sun City, FL, and his niece, Margaret Norton of Phoenix, Arizona.

Services for John are private at this time and at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in John’s memory to the SPCA of Volusia, PO Box 1411, Orange City, FL 32774.
