Obituary

John was born July 2nd, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to newly immigrated parents Emily and John Sr.  His mother came from Poland as a child, and his father from Greece as a teenager.  He had an older sister Ella, and was active in sports, particularly rowing, as a child and teenager.

He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17, and ended up commanding a minesweeper in the Pacific during WWII.  After the war, he went to college to study architecture, graduating from Lawrence University in Appleton WI in 1949.  John married Carol Berry, moved back to Chicago and started a family.

He is survived by his daughter Karen Psiris and son Jack Psiris both living in Fort Myers.  After a decade of working for others, he started his own consulting firm helping organizations design, fund and build nursing homes and retirement communities. In his early 40’s he found his soulmate for the next 45 years in Kim (Susan) Landsell. In his late 40’s he switched careers by designing, building and operating a multi restaurant and boutique shopping mall.  He ran this operation until he retired at 75 and moved with Kim to Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida.  The next 22 years were the best of his life, as he enjoyed the company of a large group of friends and golfing almost everyday.

He passed peacefully in his home on November 21, 2022 at the age of 97.  There will be a Celebration of Life held in January for family and good friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Hope Hospice organization.
