John Richard (Rick) Triplett, 55, Edgewater, FL.
John Richard ( Rick) Triplett passed away peacefully on Wed, March 16 after a long, extended illness. He was born July 7, 1960 in Muncie, IN the son of John Conrad Triplett and Marilyn (Jones) Triplett.
Rick graduated from Yorktown High School in1979 where he played football, was a long distance swimmer and was on the track team. He was a long time employee of Wise Grocery where worked in the meat department and later became a butcher. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. His jobs in the Navy included being an officer’s cook, a helicopter crash firefighter and ship maintenance.
In 1985, Rick was injured in an automobile accident leaving him a paraplegic and thus ending his career in the Navy. He was married later that year and in 1990 moved to Edgewater, Florida where he began a new life.
After moving to Florida, Rick attend and graduated from Daytona Beach Community College. He earned an A.S. degree in Computer-Aided Drafting. He worked on several projects in the community and was always available to help any of the local contractors to make sure buildings met the standards of accessibility according to the Americans With Disability Act.
Rick was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours around the water. He also loved music, movies and was a huge sports fan. He could be found on any given weekend cheering on his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team. He was also an avid gardener and was always trying to grow that perfect, tasty tomato in the harsh Florida sand. He was a member of Family Worship Center in Port Orange where he spent many years working with Decision Youth Group, playing bass with the music ministry and volunteering any way he could.
Rick is survived by his wife of 30 years Lisa ( Williamson) Triplett, daughter Brandi (Mitchell) Futch, two sons Austin and Jordan, three grandchildren (Samantha, Anakin and John), mother Marilyn (Jones) Triplett, brother Bill Triplett, in-laws Tom and Sharon (Scott) Williamson, brother and sister-in-law Sean and Lisa (Delaney) Williamson, several special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his father, John Conrad Triplett, his paternal grandparents Tracy and Catherine (Carter)Triplett and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Margaret (Fraizer) Jones.
A memorial service will be held in Rick’s honor on Friday April 1, 2016 at Family Worship Center 4425 S. Ridgewood, Ave. Port Orange, FL 32127.
