    John R Schif, 77, Edgewater FL died, Thursday, June 30, 2011. He was born in Elgin, Illinois.  John enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and cooking. He was a Life Member of BPOElks Lodge 1557 locally and in Elgin, IL. His family remembers him as a charitable person. John served our nation in the US Marine Corps. He served in Korea in the First Marine Division in the Chosin Reservoir. He retired from Kennedy Space Center as a Quality Control Inspector. He leaves to cherish in memory his wife of 33 years Ann, children Scott and Linda Schif, Becky and Roger Courtemanche, Sherry and Matt Hopson, siblings Dick and Marilyn Schif, Paul and Carol Schif, Mary Lou and Don Duensing, in-laws Marian Yelvington, Don and Carroll North, Tommy North, Wayne and Linda Yelvington, Conway and Merrie Yelvington, 11 grandchildren and many loving nephews and nieces.  He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Bertha Schif and brother-in-law Tommy North.   Memorial donations are requested to Hospice of Volusia 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32119 or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4250 2350 Sunset Drive New Smyrna Beach FL 32168. Life Celebration will be 3:30PM Saturday, July 9 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach.  Family has requested dress attire to be casual to Celebrate his Life.

    I was very sad today when I heard that John had passed away. I've thought of him often and will always remember him with a smile. John had a terrific sense of humor and his kind words of encouragement helped me many times. He was a good friend and ally. I'm glad he is not suffering and is now in a better place.

    So sad to hear the news of such a wonderful man passing. He was a great man and uncle. I will always remember him for being a kind accepting man willing to help anyone who needed it. Rest in peace.

    As Jackie and Brandon we too did not have the chance to meet Mr. Schif, but he did a great job being a father to our friend Sherry. Rest in peace Mr. Schif your suffering is over. All our prayers are with your family at this time.

    Although we didn't have the chance to meet Mr. Schif before his passing I feel as if I got to know him through the wonderful words spoken of him by his daughter Sherry, who is an amazing person and personal friend! I would also like to thank you for serving our great country! Ooh Rah! All our prayers and love to your family!
