Obituary
On January 2, 2025 John Fudge stepped out of time and into eternity. He was a “light” to all who knew and loved him – living true to his favorite adage which he proclaimed every day: “It’s Great to be Alive!”
John was born on March 25, 1935, in Abington, Virginia and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late Donald and Ella Mae Fudge, John was preceded in death by his older brother Thomas G. Fudge. “TG” and “Johnnie” as affectionately named by their beloved mother, often stretched her patience with their mischief but her boys became men of whom she was very proud.
After graduating from high school, and without his mother’s knowledge, Johnnie enlisted in the USAF. He served his country in the Strategic Air Command during the Korean Conflict, with four years active duty and four years reserve duty. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and taught survival training. He used those same skills to raise his three young boys. “Time out” was not a part of his kid-raising philosophy!
Taking advantage of the GI Bill, he attended East Tennessee State University and entered the business world, or as he referred to it, the “alter of commerce”. Using his God given charisma and his knack for sales, he entered the trucking industry. He became much sought after by companies such as Mason Dixon Lines, Great Lakes Express, Hemingway Transport and others as VP of sales for each.
John had a passion for flying and finally made it his career. In the late 70s, he teamed up with his long-time friend Roger Van Pelt, launching a lasting partnership in aircraft sales and leasing in Cincinnati, Ohio at Lunken Airport. With this extraordinary relationship- the sky was the limit. They ultimately owned over 40 aircraft leased to various companies and bought/sold many types of aircraft. John also started Air Aces Inc. teaching aerobatics and doing air shows.
In 1989, John relocated to his beloved Spruce Creek, Flyin, moving the Aviation One headquarters there, where his aviation business continued to thrive. He was a valued addition to the community, serving a term as president of the country club along with many other contributions. He loved playing golf and his “buddies” loved playing with him.
Jesus was the Lord of his life . His faith gave him great comfort. He had no problem sharing that with anyone.
John is survived by his loving wife, Judy, sons, Bill (Sara), Jon, Joseph (Sonia), three grandsons, Brent (Anna), Eric(Amanda), Mason (Christina) and six great grandchildren- Samantha, Kiersten, Dakota, Alexa, Lydia and Eliza Jane. His family – his legacy- gave him such joy. He was richly blessed.
