Obituary

Jordan Woods Hypes, Sr., 89, of Tavares, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2020.

Jordan was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on November 21, 1930, to Clarence Allen Hypes and Trixie Louise Bowers Hypes. He graduated from Beaver High School in Bluefield, West Virginia and continued on to complete numerous courses in life insurance and management, and taught motivational courses.

Jordan married Helen Marguerite Roberts on February 4, 1950; they were married for over 70 years.

Jordan worked as an agent, assistant manager, field trainer, and district manager for Peoples Life Insurance for 20 years. He was a past member of the Knights of Pythias, the first Vice President of his local Lions Club, a member of the Moose Fraternity and Junior Chamber of Commerce, and served as President of the Life Underwriters Association for three years.

Jordan and his family moved to Tavares, Florida in 1970, where he founded JJ’s Mobile Homes, Inc. He was a very active real estate investor, groomed and raced horses, and a member at First United Methodist Church in Tavares where he served as head usher. He enjoyed business, race horses, hunting, fishing, and boating, but the most important thing to him was spending time with and caring for his wife, Helen, and his family.

Jordan is survived by his wife, Helen; his four children, Vickie Woods Hypes, Tracey Bowers Laws, Jordan (Debbie) Woods Hypes, Jr., and Allyson C Hypes; his grandchildren, Tracey Michelle Spear, Jason (Lisa) Bowers Harsh, Jordan Ashely Durham, Kellette Hypes Wade, Jordan (Lindsey) Woods Hypes III, Morgan (Ryan) Leary, and JaeCe (Trevor) Parker; nine great grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

Jordan is preceded in death by parents Clarence Allen and Trixie Louise Bowers Hypes; siblings Clarence Allen Hypes, Jr., Bobby K. Hypes, Sandra Hypes Bailey, Dixie Hypes Fowlie, Jon Valentine Hypes; and granddaughter Brandy Lee Knowles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Cornerstone Hospice at 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, Florida 32162 (407-206-2273).
