Obituary
Joseph V DiMaggio (1/24/1924-12/1/2019) of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep the night of December 1st, 2019. He was born in Yonkers, New York in 1924 of Salvatore and Marianne (Russo) DiMaggio, both immigrants from Palermo, Sicily. In 1941 at age 17, he joined the US Navy and served his country for 30 years, including 3 foreign wars. The family lived in Cuba, Japan, the Philippine Islands, and Guam as well as many places in America, but always returned to their Miami Springs home of 50 years. After retiring from the Navy, Mr. DiMaggio worked for Cordis Corporation of Miami for 20 years. He moved to Ocala in 2008.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, all 4 brothers and one sister, his wife Sylvia (Porcello) of 63 years, and his only grandchild, Regina Pierleoni. He is survived by his 3 loving daughters: Marion Pierleoni of North Carolina, Lorraine DiMaggio of Ocala, and Joni DiMaggio of Sacramento, California, and many adoring nieces and nephews.
A very informal Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 26th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Reunion Hall in Stone Creek (Del Webb) on SW 80th Ave.
