Obituary

Joseph F. Hambrose, 83, of Alligator Point, Fla (formerly of Medford, NJ) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022 at The Preserve, Ft. Myers, Fla.

Born in Merchantville, NJ, Joe met the love of his life, Ruth Steele, at Merchantville High School. They married shortly after graduation and remained happily married for 45 years until Ruth’s passing in 2005.

Joe was a 1960 graduate of Spring Garden Institute, Phila., Pa. Upon graduation, Joe joined CBS WCAU in Philadelphia, where he served as Operations/Facilities Manager for 37 years. During his career he was fortunate to make lifelong friends who continued to enrich his life until the end. His expertise, good humor and steady hand prevailing though a myriad of challenges throughout his career

Upon retirement, Joe and Ruth settled in Alligator Point where they fulfilled their lifelong dream of building their forever home on the beach in Florida. They enjoyed new friends, travel, visits from family and good times at the Tiki Bar.

In his early years, Joe was a member of the Medford Sportsman Club, an avid corvette enthusiast and an expert practitioner of Falconry with the North American Falconers Association.

Later in life, Joe enjoyed boating and serving as Vice President of the Alligator Point Taxpayers association. He was also a member and volunteer of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Joe is predeceased in death by his beloved Ruth and survived by his four devoted daughters, Deborah Nary (Kevin), Mary Anderson (Eric), Cathy Clark (Wayne) and Ruth Ann Fedro (Mark) and 8 grandchildren Brittany (Scott), Tamara, Victoria (Katelyn), Richie, Nichole, Joseph, Elizabeth and Patrick and two great grandchildren Tiegan and Cole.

Dad was called home, with his attache’ in hand, which contained special memories of a life well lived.

“There is not moment of my life

When you are not a part of me:

You hold my heart; you guard my soul;

You guide my dreams so tenderly.

And if my will might be done,

and all I long for could come true;

With perfect joy I would choose

To share eternity with you”

~love, Ruth

    I was always grateful for Joe and Ruth welcoming me into the family. It was always a special time when the entire family got together.

    When I was 19, 1965, I started working for WCAU-TV on City Line Avenue, Phila. It was there I met Joe Hambrose. His secretary and I became best friends as did Joe and I. He was my mentor and guide. Being young and entering the new world of TV Joe helped me see what was good and what to stay away from.
    Through the years (57) we remained fast friends. Knowing Ruth was a joy and she became another of my best friends. When I starting a family Ruth shared not only her amazing decorating skills but lots of great parenting advice. I missed her greatly after her young passing. Visiting them in NJ and getting to know their kids was another highlight of my life.
    When Joe and Ruth moved to Florida we didn’t see much of each other. A trip down or they game up but we still talked on the phone and got together as much as possible.
    It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to Joe, thankfully I had the pleasure of harassing him on the phone a few weeks before. He had a crazy sense of humor which we all enjoyed.
    As our friend John Facenda use to say “Have a nice night tonight and a good day tomorrow”. Joe you will be missed.

    Love,

    Peggy & Frank Fisher

    Sending love to the whole family. We are so glad that our families reconnected years ago so that the bond Joe and Jack had can continue with our families. I'm sure Joe and Ruth and Jack and Mary Ann are smiling down on us from heaven. We love you Uncle Joe! Rest in Peace
