Obituary

Joseph C. Vales, aged 82, of Port Orange, FL, formerly of Wexford, PA, passed away on March 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on September 30, 1940, and was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Morsillo) Vales. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Vales, son Joseph M. Vales (Hope) of Penn Hills, PA and sister, Patricia Roth of Monroeville, PA. Survived by his children, Brenda (David) Matthews, of Suwanee, GA; Lawrence (Lorraine) Vales of Moon Township, PA; Paul Vales of Pittsburgh, PA; Jennifer Vales (Eric Weinert) of Pittsburgh, PA; and Marcie Vales of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Nicole and Megan Matthews of Suwanee, GA, Brian, Brandy, Dean, Dalton and Shelby Vales of Pittsburgh, PA, Cameron Weinert of Pittsburgh, PA., Heather (Frank) Wilson of Pittsburgh, PA., and great-granddaughter Giavanna Wilson. An entrepreneur the majority of his life, he is perhaps best known for his ownership of Joe’s Auto Stereo in Wexford, PA. Following his retirement, he returned to his love of cooking, managing the kitchen at Hooters, Daytona Motor Speedway and cooking at Caribbean Jacks in Daytona Beach. Following his second retirement, he maintained operated Affordable Pressure Cleaning in Daytona Beach, FL until just a year before his passing. Known by his friends as “Smokin’ Joe,” he was always quick with a smile or a joke, and enjoyed cooking, playing golf, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. The family wishes to thank Halifax Health Hospice for their comfort and care of their father and grandfather during his short time there.
