Obituary

Joseph W. Troutner 85, of Edgewater died peacefully Monday, March 11, 2013.  Joe was born May 13, 1927 in Vandergrift, PA to the late Margaret and William Troutner.  He joined the United States Army and served his country during WW II.  Joe received the Army of occupation medal and the WW II Victory Medal.  On May 17, 1950 he married the love of his life, Kathryn Gearhart and they moved to this area in 1963.  Joe was the owner and operator of Edgewater Hardware and Edgewater Electric, Inc for 45 years.  He was an honorary member of the Edgewater Elks Lodge #1557 and VFW, Vandergrift, PA.  Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening and as an owner of a hardware store, wood working.  He made beautiful lawn ornaments and patriotic items.  Joe will be remembered for his devilish grin and generous giving and love for family and friends.  Joe was preceded in death by his step-father, William Crow, son, Robert and grandson, Kevin Meares.  He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Kathy; two daughters, Nancy (Gary) Meares of New Smyrna Beach and Jamie (Rick Rich) Troutner of Edgewater.  Two granddaughters Kristin Meares, of New Smyrna Beach, and Raechel Troutner, of New Smyrna Beach. A life celebration will be held 11AM, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach.  Entombment to follow at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens.  A visitation will be held from 6-8PM, Friday at Baldwin Brothers.  Friends are invited to come and share a story with the family.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Halifax Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 4140 S. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, 32141.

    Dear Uncle Joe, there was a goodness in you that everyone loved.Genuine warmth in all the help you extented to others. If ever there was a generous spirit it was epitomized in you.
