Joy Wilkes Spears, 86, formerly of Port Lavaca died Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Orlando, FL.  Joy was a native of Texas born November 29, 1924 in Aransas Pass, TX.    Joy and her husband, VJ, settled in Port Lavaca to raise their two sons, Rodney and Wayne.   She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  When raising her children she devoted herself to supporting them in all of their school and sports activities.   Later in life Joy took up golf and could be found out on the course on any given beautiful day.  Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Vivian Jarrell “VJ” Spears, in 2003.  Following his death, she moved to Orlando in 2003 to be near her son.  She is survived by her devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne & Nancy of Chuluota, FL, and Rodney & Marty of Maryville, IL; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.  A gathering of friends and family in remembrance was held at Waterstone Fellowship Church in Oviedo, FL.  A service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Port Lavaca, TX on Friday, November 25, 2011.   A gathering of friends and family in remembrance was held at Waterstone Fellowship Church in Oviedo, FL.  A service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Port Lavaca, TX on Friday, November 25, 2011.    A service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Port Lavaca, TX on Friday, November 25, 2011.
