Obituary
Joyce G. Timmons, 88, died Friday, September 3, 2021. She was born June 26, 1933, in Deer River, NY, to the late Arthur and Helen Gordon. She and her late husband, Giles G. Timmons, relocated to Southwest Florida in 1986 from Syracuse, NY.
Joyce retired after many years as a teacher. She spearheaded the name change of Mattydale Elementary School to Bessie B. Riordan Elementary School in Mattydale, NY. In all aspects of her life she was a crusader who never took no for an answer. After raising four children she went back to school and graduated with a teaching degree from Oswego State University in Oswego, NY. She was very proud of becoming a teacher and all that she accomplished. Joyce was the former president of the Bessie B. Riordan Elementary School PTO and a union steward for the NY State Teachers Union.
Her greatest love was for her family and special times on Moon Lake and the St. Lawrence River. Joyce enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, and cooking (the best pies). She was also an avid reader, enjoyed music and dancing
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Gregory Timmons.
Surviving are: two sons, Jeffrey Timmons of Cape Coral and wife, Anne, Andrew Timmons of Fort Myers and wife, Karen; a daughter, Lisa Thompson of Cape Coral and husband, Tim; a sister, Linda Lewis of Liverpool, NY; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
