Obituary

Joyce M. Colborn, age 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, February 9, 2011.  Joyce was born in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Richard and Anna Hummel.  Joyce had a very full life with many ups and downs but always wore a smile and maintained an abiding faith in God.  Her sons Gary Lee and David Lloyd Willett were tragically drowned in a boating accident in 1945 at ages 5 and 2.  Following her marriage to Victor "David" Colborn, Jr. they moved to his hometown, New Smyrna Beach, Fl, in 1950.  In 1957 the family moved to Fern Park, Fl.  Joyce was very involved in community and church activities and served as Boy Scout Den Mother, Brownie Troop Leader and taught Sunday School for 40 years.  Joyce worked for 37 years for the Seminole County Property Appraiser's Office and was instrumental in transitioning the office from manual records to a computer system.  She loved her job and coworkers and did not retire until almost age 83.  Joyce loved her family, church, reading, waltzing in the living room with her beloved husband, David to the music of Lawrence Welk, friends, ice cream, chocolate and all the family pets.  She was an amazing and devoted mother.  Joyce is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Joyce was predeceased by husband David in 2002 and by her brother Richard, Jerry and Harry Hummel and sisters Leota Sutherland and Helen Addison.  Sisters, Evelyn Newton and Ruth Osborne survive her.  Also surviving are sons, Philip Willett, Timothy Willett and his wife Carol, Paul Colborn and his wife Helaine and daughter Dawn Bretz and her husband Gregory.  Joyce is survived by grandchildren, David, Jason, Michael, Trent, Nathan and Clay Willett and Staci Capistrano and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Special nephew Rick Iceberg and his wife Connie and niece Gwen Burton.  The family thanks Vitas Hospice of New Smyrna Beach, Fl for the tender care they provided. Donations to Vitas can be made in Joyce's memory.  Phil, Paul, Dawn and spouses thank Tim and Carol for the loving care they gave mother as her health declined.  Funeral services will be  held at First Baptist Church of Longwood, Fl on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 1:00 pm with visitation and reception in church social hall following.  Burial services will be at Edgewater New Smyrna Cemetary at 4:00pm.
