Obituary

Julia “Judy” Lynne Barrett was predeceased by her parents, Margaret Elizabeth Williams Barrett Riggs and Gerald Walker Barrett, Jr.  She is survived by her sister, Janet Laurette Barrett, her Aunt Elaine Barrett Porter and 11 cousins.

She was the oldest of 15 cousins and they all wanted her to be their big sister.  Judy and her Uncle Thomas Barrett were very close.  He was like her father after her dad died.

Judy was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.  She worked for the Florida Department of Corrections as a parole officer in a downtown Bunnell office.  You could always find Judy traveling the region keeping in touch with the parolees assigned to her.  Her goal was helping parolees live their lives productively and within the confines of the law.  Judy also worked at the Harry & David store while it was operating at the St. Augustine Outlet Center.  She enjoyed giving others gift baskets from Harry & David to show her appreciation for any kindness extended to her.

A selfless caregiver for her mom when she became ill and homebound, Judy made sure she was comfortable in familiar surroundings until she passed away in 2019.  Those who knew and loved Judy describe her as a person who had a servant’s heart, never complained, and was willing to give anything she had to anyone in need.

Tennis, boxing, bodybuilding, playing cards, gardening, the beach and her dog, Rafa, kept Judy active.  Animals brought her joy.  She enjoyed eating hamburgers, donuts and sweets.  Judy had a mischievous side that always brought a spark of fun to her extended family beach vacations in Virginia Beach, VA and Nags Head, NC.  Her laugh was infectious and she had a fun, carefree spirit about her.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church – 4600 Belle Terre Parkway – Palm Coast on Wednesday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. Gathering of friends and family will begin at 10:30 a.m.

A reception will be held after the services at Pine Lakes Golf Courses, 400 Pine Lakes Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Judy to SMART (Saving Missing Animals Response Team).

Sweet Judy, my neighbor and my friend. I just learned of your untimely passing and my heart is so sad. I will fondly remember our pancake mornings and margarita evenings… and wonderful chats in the yard. You we’re always vibrant, kind, and strong and I will miss your beautiful smile and infectious laugh.
My prayers are with you, Janet, and my heart goes out to you in this time of loss. May God bless and keep you well.
