Obituary
Karen Couture (61) of Ocala Florida (originally from Massachusetts) passed away May 25, 2021. Karen held a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Massachusetts and demonstrated her creative spirit in many aspects of her life from drawings to photography and more recently pottery. She was also a Master Gardener and always one to share her knowledge, enthusiasm and green thumb.
Karen was very active the first half of her life; biking, skiing (both recreational and as a ski instructor), competitive swimming, etc. At 30 she was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease called LAMS (lymphangioleiomyomatosis) as a result several years later received a double lung transplant. It wasn’t long after that she participated several times (and medaled) in the USA Transplant Games and International Transplant Games in Sidney, Australia. In the 25 years since her transplant, Karen went on to help others by writing and publishing two books providing patients practical information for Lung Transplantation. She found time for public speaking, spreading the importance of organ donation “The Gift of Life”. Find out more about LAMS disease and how to donate to their important work:

I grew up with Karen in our teen years.
We did a lot of hiking and biking, always outdoors enjoying mother nature to its fullest.
She was gifted with so much talent.
We lost touch thru the years, but I have always had a special place in my heart for my dear friend Karen. The memories will always remain.
Love you Karen, it is but time that stands in our way of reuniting.
Rest in Peace Karen
