Karen Schroeder passed unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep the morning of May 21, 2024. She would have been celebrating her 78th birthday in only a few weeks. Born in Detroit, MI and raised in the northern suburbs of Detroit, where she married and gave birth to her 2 daughters. Karen and family moved permanently to Florida in 1977. Karen is survived by her husband of 59 1/2 years, Robert Schroeder; daughter Shawn Schroeder of North Port (her son Tyler Schroeder); daughter Samantha Curtis of Bradenton (husband Jamie Curtis), and Samantha’s two sons; Brandon Urban (wife Brittany); and Justin Urban. She had two great-grandsons Austin and Aaron, the children of Brandon and Brittany.

Karen and her husband were the founders and owners of 3 Dino’s Pizza Restaurants (2 in Sarasota and 1 in Venice), with the first 100 seat restaurant opened in 1979. Over the years two more restaurants were opened and eventually they were each sold separately. The last to be sold in 2001 was the Dinos Pizza Restaurant located at Bee Ridge Rd. and McIntosh Rd. in Sarasota. After selling the restaurants Karen worked part time to occupy her time, first in retail and she finished her working career after 12 years as a cashier with Publix, when she retired in 2018.

Karen was an avid tennis player in the 80’s and 90’s and played on many local tennis teams. She had many trophies and certificates from team tennis and tournaments. Karen developed many lasting friendships during her years playing tennis. She was a “love of life” person and did not have a mean bone in her body. She was a jokester and was the life of the party. Karen will be greatly missed by all. There will only be a private remembrance for immediate family.
