Kathleen (Kathy) Frances Gilbert went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2018 after being ill for 3 months.  She was born to Frank and Alice Cordeiro on August 31, 1946 in New Bedford, Massachusetts.  She graduated from Bishop Stang High School and went on to take business classes at Drakes School of Business.  Kathy married Dennis R. Gilbert on May 4, 1968.  They would together start a family and live in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Selden, New York, Englewood, Colorado and finally The Villages, FL.  She was an active leader in her churches including the secretary for the church in New Bedford.  Kathy enjoyed cooking and traveling and was active in Tres Dias International on Long Island, MA and Colorado.  She also loved billiards and played in Nationals two times.  In Colorado she worked for the IRS as a secretary and would go on to retire in 2013.  Kathy also worked in various bank positions. Kathy leaves behind her loving husband Dennis of 50 years; daughters, Ellen Gilbert of New York, Karen (Bryan) Pennell of Erwin, North Carolina; two grandsons, Allen of Rochester Hills, MI and Kenny of Reaford, NC and granddaughter Kristine of Erwin, North Carolina.  She always loved her Palm Trees and every vacation had to have palm trees or it was not allowed.  This is why she made her last stop Florida.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Fairway Christian Church, 251 Avenida Los Angelos, The Villages, FL 32162 at 1 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to The American Cancer Society.
