Obituary

Kathleen McCasey Jakovenko-Hill, 63, of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning, June 1st, 2022, after a two and a half year battle she fearlessly and faithfully fought against Pancreatic Cancer.

Kathleen was born to parents Thomas McCasey and Quava Adams on March 8th, 1959, in Madison Heights, Michigan. She graduated from Adlai E. Stevenson High School and joined the United States Marine Corps shortly after, where she was stationed at Camp Lejeune. Ever since she was a young girl, she had always expressed that she wanted nothing more than to be a mother and have children to love and care for of her own, which eventually came to be.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Robert Hill. She is also survived by her former spouse, John Jakovenko, with whom she had her three children: John Jakovenko, Elisabeth Jakovenko, and Rachel Jakovenko. She is also survived by her two brothers, David McCasey and John McCasey, one sister, Victoria McCasey, her father, Thomas McCasey, and her two granddaughters, Emma Jakovenko and Maia Jakovenko.

Kathleen worked at the Volusia County Courthouse as a Clerk of the Circuit Court for nearly two decades. She was a devoted and born-again Christian and lived to serve and walk with the Lord; she unfailingly praised, thanked, and sang His glories for everything in her life until her very last breath. She taught and shared her love of the Lord with all her children. Kathleen was incredibly proud of her family and left behind nothing but beautiful memories.

Please join us for the funeral service on June 24th, 2022, at 10 a.m. ET, where we will join together at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetary located at 5525 US-1, Mims, FL 32754. Later that day, we will be gathering at Spruce Creek Baptist Church, located at 1952 Taylor Rd, Port Orange, FL 32128, from 4-7 p.m. ET for her Celebration of Life. Kathleen had always expressed that she wanted happiness and bright colors during her Celebration of Life. So, please dress in your happiest colors, and bring your fondest memories of her to share with family and friends.

Flowers and all other contributions and donations can be sent to Spruce Creek Baptist Church, 1952 Taylor Rd, Port Orange, FL 32128.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
-Proverbs 3:5-6

I worked with Kathleen for many years at the Courthouse. She was such a dedicated person and loved her job. She also loved her family and granddaughters and we talked alot about our girls. We shared many laughs and some tears. She had a great sense of humor and I will miss her always...

I met Kathleen at Ministry if the word in Daytona Beach many years ago when my children were young. She always was family and as life goes we didn’t see much of each other but always in my thoughts. I pray that her children have peace knowing their mom was a great person and raised them to be great adults. Many hugs to you all. Love to you all.

What a lovely obituary . Kathy and I are 2nd cousins, just a year between us. We played together as kids at every family get together, but lost contact through the years. I always wished I had her freckles, such a pretty girl. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. She is surrounded by the love of all the family and friends that have passed before us.

Kathleen celebrating Halloween with her Cookie Monster co-workers. We went Trick or Treating to the Judges offices and went back to our office for a big luncheon. We couldn’t wait to eat the dish that Kathleen brought, she was an amazing cook and baker. At Christmas her chocolate fudge was our favorite dessert.

Kathleen, my dear, dear, dear sister in Christ Jesus, it must be so marvelous and awesome to see our beloved Savior face to face. So glad you are with Him, where there is no more pain and no more sorrow. I'm looking forward to the day we are reunited in His presence.

To the family, especially the daughters you will have so many people around you, calling , texting visiting. You will hear so many words of kindness. It’s all new fresh everyone comforting. It’s when the dust settles that your grieving starts. Allow yourself to grieve, know that it’s okay to grieve and there many be many forms of it . Memories of your mother will pop up at random moments allow yourself to feel that moment. Her legacy lives in you, carry it with honor and that’s how her light will shine forever. Prayers for God’s healing hand & comforting arms over you and your whole family. I know she was amazing woman just by her mark of her daughters whom I follow since Vine. Condolences
