Kathryn Ann Heise Cubbage, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was called to her eternal home on January 10th, 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Rian Meadows (Chris), grandchildren, Hadley, Carson, and Reese Meadows, sisters Martha Cannon, Jane Henthorne (George), and Susan Czaplewski (Bill), brothers Paul Heise (Marty), and James Heise (Roxanne), nieces Alice Cannon Salley (Boyce), Rachel Ghulamani, Jenna Czaplewski, Adrienne Czaplewski, and Kirstin Herrin (Dean), nephews Charles Heise and Adam Czaplewski (Virginia), and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Paul and Lorraine Heise, and her brother-in-law, James Cannon.
Kate was born in Winona, Minnesota, on January 25th, 1949. Growing up, she attended St. Martin’s Lutheran School, and Winona Junior and Senior High Schools. She then went on to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film in 1971. Upon graduation, her adventurous spirit led her to spending 3 years working abroad in Berchtesgaden, Germany, teaching English to German children. When she returned to the states, she garnered a position at the newly opened Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Working her way up the WDW ladder and eventually to the management echelon, Kate spent 40 amazing years there, retiring in 2013; she cherished the many life-long friends and co-workers that she was privileged to know during her time at WDW. Kate was also a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Family was at the core of Kate’s life—from planning special trips, creating magnificent Sunday “Funday” dinners or organizing Family “Game Nights”—she cared for her family with a fierce, devoted love that no others could match. There was truly no one like our “Grandma Kate,” “Naner,” “Mommy,” or “Katiekins.” Her smile, her enthusiasm, her laughter, and her zest for life will never be extinguished; she will live on forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and to love her.
A Memorial Celebration of her life will be at 11:00am on May 1st, 2021, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, Florida.
