Obituary
Kenneth (Ken) M. Gallant, 70, from Ocala, FL, formerly of Orland, ME and Sartell, MN, died peacefully on November 3rd after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ken was born in Bangor, Maine on June 25, 1946, the son of Joseph and Mary (Soper) Gallant. He attended Bucksport High School in Bucksport, ME as well as the University of Maine in Orono, Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, ME, and graduated in May 1969 from Calhoun MEBA School of Marine Engineering in Baltimore, MD. During the Vietnam War, Ken served as a member of the Merchant Marines providing munitions and supplies to American soldiers.
A steam engineer by trade, Ken spent the majority of his career working for the paper industry, first for St. Regis and Champion in Bucksport, ME before moving to Sartell, MN to work for Champion and then International Paper as a power and utilities manager. Ken retired in 2006.
An accomplished trumpet player, cook, and golfer, Ken was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. He loved camping, fishing, and the outdoors. He was also an outstanding football player in high school and college, leading the Bucksport Golden Bucks to the state championship in 1963.
Ken is survived by his wife, Kristina (Luce) Gallant; his children Heidi (Gallant) Gignac and her husband Ed, Patrick Gallant and his wife Pauline, and Philip Gallant and his wife Terrie; his sister, Jennifer (Gallant) Cloukey and her husband Peter; sister in law, Barbara Gallant; his grand-children, Ryan, Amy, Hayley, Michael, Isabella, and Parker. He is pre-deceased by his father Joseph Gallant, his mother Mary (Soper) Gallant, and his brother Joe Gallant.
