Obituary
Kevin Patrick Filley, of Orlando, died on June 22, 2021, after a short illness; he was 70 years old.
May his spirit rejoice in Heaven and embrace our family members and friends who have gone before him.
Born and raised in Ithaca, NY, he was the son of the late Patrick and Ruby Filley. Kevin was on
the varsity teams for football, ice hockey, and track at Ithaca High School, and went to the
University of Massachusetts Amherst on a football scholarship. During his sophomore year
there, he met Joy Yoder; they have been together ever since.
After completing a BBA, Kevin also earned an MBA at UMass Amherst. He began his career with
DuPont as a Regional Sales Manager for New England. After moving to Orlando, he worked for
Darden Restaurants for 20 years in market research, menu planning, and real estate. In 2004,
he started FSI Construction Inc, working with his youngest son, Troy. He retired in 2018.
A quiet man with an exquisite laugh, Kevin was a loving and tender husband, father and
grandfather. His flexible work schedule with Darden allowed him to regularly attend his sons’
sports and school events; he also served as a YMCA Indian Guides Chief, Little League and
soccer coach.
When not working, he enjoyed all types of hunting and spent many happy days on a hunting
lease. A lifelong college football fan, he and Joy have a tradition of watching college ball every
Saturday of the season. He loved ice cream and jelly beans.
He is survived by Joy Yoder-Filley, his wife of 48 years; their sons Chad (Trish), of Ocala, FL; Sean
(Chelsea) and Troy (Kristine), both of Orlando; grandchildren Leighton, Kade, Harper, Carson and
Chase; sisters Anne, of Trumansburg, NY, and Shawn Fennessy, of Groveland, FL; and a brother,
Michael, also of Groveland.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a funeral service at the Cathedral Church of St.
Luke, 130 N Magnolia Ave, Orlando, at 11 AM on Saturday, July 17. A reception will follow at the Orange
County History Museum.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to your favorite charity.
