Obituary
Rev. Lawrence Alan McKinney, age 52, was born in Peru, Indiana on June 17, 1963 and went home to glory on April 8, 2016.
Jesus Christ, his family and his church were the most precious things to Larry. He had the special joy of serving at the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle for the past twenty years, more recently as Associate Pastor. He loved ministering to all people ranging from children to senior adults. Larry was especially gifted in drama and music and shared his gifts wholeheartedly through his years in ministry. Many people will remember “The Living Christmas Story: a Drive Thru Experience” that Larry created and directed at First Baptist Pine Castle, which has been a wonderful outreach opportunity to the community for the past nineteen years.
Larry was a 1981 graduate from Oak Ridge High School, and in 1986 graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida. He earned his Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1994.
At the time of his father’s passing, Larry wrote the following: “I had never faced a life changing situation before, not like this. I can remember sitting at a stop light and thinking, ‘Sooner or later, everyone comes face to face with what they really believe. My faith was shaken, but not broken, and I came through that time certain that God really cared about me, and about my dad. I’ll see him again, in God’s timing.’” We rejoice as a family that they are reunited today and that we will all be reunited one day in Heaven because of our faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Norman McKinney. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Alycia; two daughters, Abigail and Hope; and one son, Luke. He is also survived by his mother, Marilyn McKinney of Baxley, GA; sister, Kathie Parish (Phil); brothers Keith (Lindy), David (Freda), and Kevin (Traci); as well as many nephews and nieces and extended family.
