Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) Mennie, 75, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away suddenly on Sunday June 4, 2017. He was the husband of Lucy B. Mennie to whom he was married for 50 years. Born in Jamaica NY on October 29, 1941, Larry was the son of the late Thomas S. and the late Margot Mennie. Larry served in the US Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He started with the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1959 and retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2002 after working the rails for 43 years. After retirement and moving to Florida Larry served on the Community Association of his development and was given the President’s Award for his efforts to better his community. Survivors in addition to his wife Lucy are his son Thomas L and his wife Pamela Mennie of Elverson PA and son Gary L and his wife Jennifer Mennie of Marietta GA. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Garrett, Britton, and Bennett of Marietta GA. Larry was a great gardener and had a dark green thumb. Larry also enjoyed sailing and took many trips throughout the Caribbean with friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved dogs Sophie, Mason, Katie, Aspen, and Hunter. He is also survived by his 3 current canine companions Buck, Lacy, and Rosie. In addition to his own dogs Larry opened his home and heart to many foster dogs and helped them find their “fur-ever” homes. Larry was a devoted dog lover and passionate about giving his time to help Great Dawg Rescue. Services will be private and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Larry’s memory be made to Great Dawg Rescue PO Box 1886, Ormond Beach FL 32175.
