Obituary

The world lost a beloved friend and family member, Lee B Simmonds, on September 6 2020. He peacefully passed away at Shands hospital Gainsville, FL after battling the covid virus for nearly a month, he was 71.

Surviving are his wife JoAnn of Ocala, Fl, 2 children Bobby and Christine Simmonds of Toledo, Oh, a beloved brother Greg and his wife Carlene of Ocala. Step children Chuck Thomas, Candie Thomas and Chad Thomas of Ft Wayne, In, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents Robert and Reba Simmonds and a brother Bruce.

Lee was born in Muncie, In….he also lived in Toledo but spent most of his adult life in Fort Wayne before retiring to Ocala in 2015.

He retired after 30 years at IBM as an IT specialist and then started his own consulting business Summit DCS which he operated from 2002-2019.

Lee had a lifelong passion for fishing, RC airplanes, British sports cars of the 60’s, ham radio and had recently renewed his interest in bowling, golf and recently archery.

He had a large social circle of the many friends he made while being involved in multiple clubs and activities.

He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others and his desire to expand his knowledge.

There will be an empty space in our hearts as we say goodbye to Lee. May God bless his soul and everyone he knew.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at On Top of the World in Ocala.

    We always remember Lee with his contagious smile. He was an asset to our Trivia team. Always willing to lend a hand. Gene & he we’re going to get the Lionel trains going in our garage this year. Sadly, he willed be missed in many people’s lives. Prayers for the family.

    What a heart-felt tribute, for Lee. He was a compassionate brother-in-law, who always listened and offered good advice. Many fun times we shared are among some of my fondest memories.
