Obituary
Leon A. Horton, Jr. of North Ft. Myers, FL passed away on October 21, 2025, at age 92.
Leon was born August, 8, 1933 in Corning, NY to Leon A. Horton Sr. and Irene (nee Hubbard). He graduated from Northside High School. Leon enjoyed camping, fishing and boating throughout his life. It was evident, when he and a friend went door to door by boat rescuing families in the 1972 Agnes Flood. Leon married Sylvia Hammond Mead on April 9, 1983. Leon and Sylvia were members of the Christian Life Baptist Church in Corning, NY and the Northside Baptist Littleton Road Church in N. Ft. Myers, FL. They were also both members of VOICE for the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.
Leon retired from Corning Glass Works after 20+ years of service. Prior to that he was 1st District Manager for the Star Gazette newspaper and after high school he worked at the family-owned King’s Dairy. Upon moving to Florida, Leon looked forward to each MLB Spring Training , where he held the Lead position of VIP & Team Parking for the Minnesota Twins.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sylvia. His sons Leon III and David (Debbie) from a previous marriage; step daughter. Donna; step son, Eric; his sister, Geraldine (Russ) Frey; his brother, Galen Horton; several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step son, Todd Mead; uncle, Robert Horton; cousins, William and Robert, Jr. Horton.
Services will be held at a later date.
