Obituary

Linda Grace Hoskins passed away December 27, 2024, at the age of 86 years. Born in Waynesboro, PA, she had resided in the Hammock with her husband Don to whom she was married 61 before his passing in 2020. Her recent residence was in Ormond Beach, FL.

Linda’s early childhood was difficult with 7 siblings, surviving a housefire at the age of 9 years that caused the death of her father, then subsequently being placed in an orphanage for several years. She was working in a shoe factory when she met and happily married Don, a serviceman in the Army. As an Army wife, she lived on base with Don in Germany and the Philippines. She worked as a cashier in a commissary and enjoyed the social aspects of the military.

Upon returning to the US, they made their home near Don’s parents and his brother Eugene’s family in the Hammock. They quickly became actively involved in community affairs and became members of the close-knit fellowship of the Johnson Memorial Church, presently the Hammock Community Church, that her father-in-law, Thomas Hoskins, helped build. Linda was content as a wife and homemaker and enjoyed playing the piano, gospel music, and singing in the church choir. A caring person, Linda, will be remembered for checking over others and seeing their needs were met, especially during church food activities. Charitable and generous, she was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and a donor to numerous charities.

A sociable person, Linda enjoyed visiting friends, square dancing with Don, playing Bingo and other games, puzzles and loudly cheering on her favorite sports teams. Her sister Janet has pleasant memories of Linda playing “Amazing Grace” on the piano as they sang. They enjoyed making ham pot pies together while their mother told them they were doing it all wrong even though she enjoyed the results. Linda especially enjoyed sitting on the porch at Janet’s house in Iron Springs, PA, especially when it was raining.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Zoran and Evelyn Baker Harbaugh, her husband Donald, her sisters Mary, Nancy and Darlene, her brothers William and Roy, and several nephews and nieces.

Survivors include her brother Kenneth (Bonnie) Harbaugh of Quincy, PA. and her sister Janet Bynaker of Waynesboro, PA, with whom she spoke almost daily by phone, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hammock Community Church in the Hammock. A memorial service celebrating Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1 pm, at Hammock Community Church with Pastor Mike Van Voss presiding, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
