Obituary

Lisa Linnette Trujillo, 61, of Fort Myers, FL passed away Thursday July 21, 2022. She was born November 1, 1960 in Covington, KY to Shirley (Taylor) and Harry James Garner.

Born with a webbed hand, Lisa spent many summers receiving care at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She persevered through over 20 surgeries from infancy into her teens to reconstruct her hand.

Lisa was raised in Fort Myers and was a Greenie through and through, attending Fort Myers High School, then raising her kids who also attended FMHS.

At 19 years old, before any thoughts of raising a family, Lisa closed her eyes and picked the beautiful state of Colorado on a map, deciding to take a chance on Aspen. She set off in her 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, travelling across the country on an unforgettable road trip. Lisa got a job as a ski lift operator at Aspen Highlands Ski Resort where she met her husband of 20+ years, Dan Trujillo. They lived in Aspen together for 5 years, a couple of those years were spent in a house right next to the Roaring Fork River. Lisa and Dan moved to Fort Myers to be closer to her parents and got married on March 19, 1988.

Lisa and Dan raised their two kids, Janna and Jacob, in a wonderful home in the Villas neighborhood. Lisa worked as a school bus driver for Lee County, proudly driving the Sanibel routes where she watched the sunrise every morning.

Always ready to sing along, Lisa was a huge fan of the band U2 and she felt pure joy while watching the stunning sunsets on Fort Myers Beach. She adored her children and grandson, Jude, tended to her many bromeliads and other thriving plants, and enjoyed being around all of her friends from different chapters of her life. Her newest passion was volunteering at the Calusa Nature Center, feeding and caring for the rescued animals.

Lisa is survived by daughter, Janna Jameson Trujillo and husband Jeff Peterson; son, Jacob Kerry Trujillo and wife Rachel (Glover) Trujillo; grandson, Jude Aaron Trujillo; sister, Gayla Garner and husband Peter Bennett; cousin Robbie Taylor and wife Susan Taylor; as well as her Kentucky family and extended Colorado family. She is preceded in death by her parents and Dan Trujillo.

The Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium is generously creating a brick to honor Lisa in their butterfly garden for friends and family to have a place to visit.  The family will have a private Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Nature Center.
