Lloyd P. Griffiths of Orange City, FL and Brackney, PA passed away
peacefully at home on June 1, 2019. Born in Scranton, Pa, he lived
his childhood years with his family in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Following graduation from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ,
he was commissioned in the Air Force for pilot training where he
attained the rank of Major as he earned proficiency in jet fighters
and later in transport aircraft. He enjoyed his years on Active Duty,
with Strategic Air Command (SAC), and with the Reserves which took
him to many far flung and interesting destinations, from the Azore
Islands to the Arctic reaches of Thule, Greenland.
His aviation career continued for 31 years with Eastern Air Lines as a
Captain, and then Chief Pilot of the Northeast Region. During those
years many lasting friendships formed both ‘on the line’ and off.
Upon retirement, Lloyd turned this his longtime interest in finance
and investments when he joined T.O. Richardson, Bridgeport, CT, as
Executive Vice President.
His Welsh heritage was an important element of his life, particularly
their choral music. Membership in church choirs in PA and FL
reflected his love and appreciation of all music.
An enthusiasm for travel never wavered and the family shared in the
adventures. Camping, sailing and skiing were favored activities. A
longtime Presbyterian, he served faithfully in churches in Smithtown,
NY, Greenlawn, NY, Montrose, PA, and Ponce Inlet, FL.
Lloyd is survived by MaryAnn (Erhard) Griffiths, his loving and
cherished wife of 64 years; daughter Barbara (Griffiths) Brooks,
Randy Brooks, grandson Thomas; daughter Molly (Griffiths) Breiling,
Peter Breiling, and grandchildren John and Kate. Lloyd was
predeceased by his son John Scott Griffiths; and his brother, Paul
