Obituary

Lonnie Gale McCullough, 78, born August 12, 1946 in Washington, Indiana, passed away October 30, 2024 at his residence in The Villages, Florida. He was the beloved son of James (Jim) McCullough and Pauline (Harner) McCullough. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Ronald McCullough (deceased in infancy) and Edwin McCullough.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Susan McCullough, daughters Laurie McCullough – Washington, Indiana, and Lisa (Roger) Claridge – Velpen, Indiana, Grandchildren Kyle (Kayla) Claridge, Kadence (Bryce) Browning, Jesse (Brittany) Tryon, Jase Tryon, Anna Speer, and Great-grandchildren Maya Mae Tryon & Lucas Tryon.

Also surviving are his mother & father-in-law Cliff & Judy Hartley, step daughters Kristi (Dan) Follmer, Kelly (Todd) Dossett, Gayle (Paul) Nelson, step-grandchildren Prestin Melroy, Milisa Barnes, Ryan Saatho, Kaidyn Follmer, Monty Follmer, Tad, Danica, & Tig  Dossett, Dylan, Brooklyn, Jaclyn, & Collin Nelson.

Raised in Washington, Indiana, Lonnie was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School and enjoyed playing baseball in his youth. Lonnie served four years in the United States Air Force where he became a Certied Electrician and received an Honorable Discharge. Lonnie spent many years building & flying model airplanes and flying in model airplane shows. This hobby progressed into Lonnie obtaining his Private Pilot’s License from the FAA, and building lasting relationships with many area pilots at the Daviess County Airport. He retired from Zeigler Coal Holding Company (formerly Old Ben Coal Company) after 30 years as an electrician and member of the United Mine Workers Association.

In 2010, Lonnie found joy in the vibrant community of The Villages, Florida, where he spent his retirement years playing golf with two men’s leagues and playing guitar with his Thursday music group.

Lonnie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a hard-working man of honor and integrity who set an example of discipline and excellence in everything he pursued. A private celebration of life will be held for relatives.
