Louella Zoe Johnston, 99, of New Smyrna Beach died Friday, December 10, 2010 with her family by her side.  Louella was born September 23, 1911 in Teutoplis, IL.  She met and married the love of her life Merle Johnston (deceased 1989) in North Dakota.   They settled in Olivia, MN before moving to New Smyrna Beach in 1951.  Louella was the matriarch of the family.  She and Merle had four children.  Louella would give of her time with the Girl Scouts and family sports events.  Later in life, she and Merle were involved in local politics and one of the founding members of the New Smyrna Beach Christian Church where they were actively involved.  She loved to read and work crossword puzzles, but her greatest accomplishment was her family.  Louella is survived by her loving children, Carol Minnick of South Daytona, Merle Johnston of Okeechobee, FL and Steve Johnston of New Smyrna Beach.  She was affectionately known as to her adored grandchildren as “Double Grandma”. Double Grandma leaves behind   15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.  Louella once wrote that the spiritual legacy she’d like to leave for others was to let them know that they need to “accept Jesus, be baptized in His name and go to church because I want everyone in our family to see each other in Heaven one day.”  In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the Volusia/Flagler Hospice, 2800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, 32129.  Private Family Services to be held

  1. Pat Freeman says:
    28 Dec 2010
During this time of great sorrow, may it comfort you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. I too know the pain of losing someone dear. Even though our hearts are broken, rest assure that our Grand Creator cares about you personally (1Peter 5:7) and can help you though this difficult time. Revelation 21:4 speaks of a time soon when God will do away with death forever. There will be no more sorrow, heartache, or pain. May your happy memories and sure scriptural hope comfort your hearts during this painful time. Please remember that during Jesus’ ministry, he healed the sick and resurrected back to life on earth many that had died, giving proof of his power over sickness and death. Jesus made a promise to all who have lost loved ones in death at John 5:28, 29 which reads: “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” Yes, Jesus Christ promised that all those in God’s memory will live again under beautiful conditions like the Garden of Eden. May this bring you peace.
