Obituary

Louis Koller was born June 3, 1926 in Independence, Pennsylvania, the 8th of twelve children. He died peacefully at Cates House in Ocala, Florida on November 16, 2022 at the age of 96. He lived a long, happy life surrounded by family and his numerous friends made through a lifetime spent as a championship golfer. Lou served in the US Navy during World War II spending time in both the Mediterranean and Pacific Theatres. After the conclusion of the war, Lou joined his family in Detroit where in 1946 he met his wife of seventy-one years, Josie (Lorenzo) Koller. Lou and Jo had one child, a daughter Patricia who was born in 1947. Shortly after returning from the war, Lou went to school to learn television repair. He and his wife Jo ran Koller TV Sales and Service in Royal Oak, Michigan for nearly forty years until they retired to Ocala, Florida in 1996. The couple led a very charmed life surrounded by great friends and numerous vacations around the US and the world. He was also a noted green thumb who grew amazing tomato plants and beautiful flower beds. In his middle 30’s Lou took up the game of golf. He took to the game right away and set out to make himself the best golfer he could be…and what a player he became! By his middle 50’s he had won two Golf Association of Michigan State Senior Championships, numerous club championships at Indianwood Golf and Country Club and held a number of Michigan course records. Over his golf career Lou made 14 hole-in-ones and shot his age perhaps more than any other golfer ever…starting at age 67! Despite all these amazing golf accomplishments, he was best known as a true gentleman on the course and someone with who everyone loved to play a game. Lou was preceded in death by his mother (Julia) and father (John) as well as ten of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Wilson, and her husband Robert of Oxford, Michigan, Grandchildren Christopher Wilson and his wife Jodi of Ocala and Elizabeth (Wilson) Door and husband Christian of St Joseph, Michigan and great-grandchildren Niklaas Door, Cooper Wilson and Ava Door.
