Obituary

Luther Wright, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10th, in Fort Myers, Florida. Born on February 14, 1938, in New Jersey, Luther lived a full life, following his passions both on and off the tennis court.

Luther was a professional tennis player and a successful business owner, but he was best known for his kind heart and love of life. He spent his days on the beach with his companion Emily, enjoying great food and the company of their beach friends, always ready with a smile and a story to share.

Though he had no living family members, Luther is survived by many dear friends, including Tessa O’Gilvie and Yvonne Schmitz, who will always cherish the memories of his warmth, wit, charm, and joyful spirit. Now, he is reunited with his beloved Emily, the love of his life. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal service. Those who knew him are encouraged to remember the good times, his love for the beach, his friends, and life itself.

I have missed you Luther for many years, and in trying to find you I could not. Today I found you. My sadness can't be measured that I did not make a greater effort to track you down and say hello again. I am profoundly sorry. My best friend from many years ago, never forgotten, and so many fond memories.

I am devastated to read this! I tried to see you when I was in Ft. Myers in January and again when I was in St. Pete in July/Aug, but you didn't return my calls! I was going to drive down and just knock on your door and surprise you, but I had a bad accident and broke my right wrist and shoulder, so had to get home ASAP. I just tried to call you, worried about you with Milton headed your way, only to find your phone disconnected . I feared the worst....and found this out....so devastated. I will never forget our time together! You were a very special man and my heart will always have a special corner that belongs to you! How I wish I could have come down when you called me a few years ago, but I couldn't leave my beloved Mom! You understood, and it was always my intention to make it down eventually, which I did, finally, in January. How I wish I had just knocked on your door then! I left messages for you on your voicemail, and with the front desk, both in Jan and July/Aug but got no response. Now I know why. RIP my sweet man!

Luther buddy, I enjoyed visiting with you when I was your aide.
We always had nice conversations and good laughs.
You were always happy when I made you breakfast or brought you something good to eat. Although our time spent together was short, I hope my presence made your day a little brighter. Luther was a very special client and I will cherish my time spent with him forever. Rest easy friend.

Luther was a man full of wisdom and love. He used to spend every Thanksgiving with us and loved a to go bag of food and always made sure we had ice cream to go with all of the pie. Luther, you are now with your love, fly high .
