Obituary

Lyle Joseph Hartjes, 81, of Ocala, FL, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Lyle was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin to Norbert and Josephine Hartjes, and lived most of his life in Wisconsin then made Harrison, Arkansas home for 17 years before moving to and growing to love Ocala, Florida.

He was a USAF veteran, (1960-1964), enlisted SSGT and was a lifetime member of  American Legion, Post #10.  Lyle spent his business career working in the pharmaceutical industry, where he retired as an Executive Sales Representative.  His time in Wisconsin had many accomplishments including Past Chairman, Weston (WI) Police and Fire Commission for 5 years, Past President, Appleton Rod and Gun Club for 2 years, and the Owner and President of Golf Services, Inc from 1994– 1997.  While in Harrison, Lyle served as Past President, Harrison (AR) Country Club from 2001-2005, and dedicated many years as a judge at the Alpena H.S Science and Engineering Fair from 2001 to 2014, where he had soft spot for the staff and kids.

Lyle lived his life volunteering and helping others with his time and generosity.  He will be forever loved by his family and friends.  His big heart and warm smile made everyone feel like family.  He enjoyed playing golf with Harrison Country Club golf buddies and family and was considered by his grandchildren to be the best person to play cribbage with.

Survivors include his lifelong partner of 30 years, Kaye Koffarnus, 2 sons; Leigh Hartjes and wife Suzanne and their children Zachary, Caitlyn, and Samuel, and Mark Hartjes and wife April, and their children Emerald and Evan.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles in 2020 and Roger in 2021.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 from 11- 3pm at Top of the World Candler Lodge. As this is a gated community, if you are going to attend, please RSVP to Kaye at: kayekoffarnus@gmail.com.

    Lyle was a great judge for the Alpena science fair. He judged honestly and fairly. The kids always spoke highly of him and the way he treated them. He never failed to tell us how much he enjoyed judging and bragged in the students. My condolences to you all in his passing.
