Manliff M. Simpson, affectionately known as “Manny” born 4th April 1942, originally from Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on 2nd August 2022.
He is survived by Lynn, his wife of 14.5 years; daughters: Leandra and Lauren; son, Ryan and step-daughter, Steph, and his sisters, Veda Meyer and Kim Grahame. Manny was also Papa to Ava, Elin, Isla, Olina, Madeline and Nathaniel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Eileen, in 2006.
Residing between Illinois and Florida, Manny spent the most recent 10 years in River Wilderness, where he happily played golf, drank good wine, and enjoyed afternoon rides on the golf cart with his beloved dog, “Big Al”. His love of golf started over 40 years ago at Medinah Country Club, where he served as Secretary for several years. Manny’s past also included serving as an US Marine Corps fighter pilot in Vietnam, where he flew over 350 combat missions and was awarded the DFC and Bar. Later when Manny retired from the Marines, he successfully practiced law for over 40 years in Chicago and assisted in creating the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association and the Air Warrior Foundation.
Manny’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes to be scattered from above, where he could return to fly his final mission.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Club at River Wilderness on Sunday, September 11th from 2:00-4:00PM
