Maria Luisa Perez Costa, 64 of Winter Park died peacefully Sunday, March 4, 2012 with her daughter by her side. Maria was born June 2, 1947 in Lima, Peru to the late Paulina Costa-Laurent and Luis Perez-Silva. She met her sweetheart when she was 13 years old and married Oscar Mario Gaggero when she was 19. They had a beautiful life together tending to their family vineland until his sudden death in 1984. After his death, Maria moved into the city with her children and started a small restaurant. She was known throughout the city for her delicious meals. Her gift of cooking was a true gift from God. Maria was always very thankful for being able to create food that would melt in mouth. Maria was devoted to her husband and children. She loved her family and had a sweet disposition, unless you disagreed with her. She was fun, amusing and could be mischievous. The lessons she taught her children to be hardworking and honest will never be forgotten. Maria is survived by her three devoted children, Maria Grazia Gaggero LaGatta and her husband, Dr. Mark A. LaGatta of Winter Park, FL, Annabella Gaggero Karačić and her husband, Juan Luis Karačić of Washington, DC, and Oscar S. Gaggero and his wife, Elsa Aguirre of Lima, Peru; four adored grandchildren, Pia, Arianna, Nikola and Lia and her brother, Luis Perez-Costa.
A memorial mass will be said at 11:00, Saturday, March 10, 2012, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Avenue, Winter Park.
