Obituary

Maria del Pilar Ojeda-Ferenus (“Pilar”, “Maripily”), 74, of Lakewood Ranch, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 with her family by her side. She was fun and loved a good joke, was loving, generous, and giving of herself to her family, friends, and others. She was beloved by her family, relatives, and friends, and will be dearly missed.

Pilar was born in Quilpue, Chile on on May 4, 1948, to the late Enrique Ramon Ferenus-Yurich and Maria del Pilar Teresa Ramona Gutierrez-Sola of Quilpue, Chile. She is survived by her husband, Carlos; daughters Pilar and Viviana; son Carlos, grandsons Jordan (Jennifer) and Jesse; great-grandson Jericho; and her mother, Maria del Pilar (her father being predesaced), and her younger sisters Ana Maria and Jacqueline. Pilar married the love of her life on March 11, 1967, in Quilpue, Chile. Pilar and Carlos welcomed daughter, Pilar, on January 30, 1968, in Vina del Mar, Chile. The family lived in Puerto Aysen, Chile, for a few years, and there Viviana was born on February 1, 1970. Pilar moved with her husband and two young daughters to the US in 1974, settling down in Provo, Utah, where her son, Carlos, was born on December 8, 1976.

Pilar was a graduate of Utah Valley University, and went on to become an electrical designer, a career she worked in and enjoyed for many years in Denver and Portland, Oregon, especially The Harris Group. In 2001 the family moved to Sarasota, and she also became Vice President of Andes Construction and Mining Equipment Company, the family company. And in recent years she worked as a personal assistant.

She was so energetic that the family called her Energizer Bunny. She enjoyed art & culture, travel, nature, all kinds of music (which she liked to tap her fingers to), sports, especially tennis (which she played for many years, and met several good friends through). She adored her husband, family, and relatives, and she loved visiting her family and relatives in Chile, whom adored her. As well as her husband and children, she loved spending time with her two grandsons and great-grandson, who brought her great joy.

Viewing ceremony will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, 3:00-5:00pm at Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society located at 3825 FL-64, Bradenton, FL 34208. A funeral mass will be held in the chapel at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 12:00pm. The church is located at 12905 SR-70 E., Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202.  Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made in Pilar’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
