Obituary
Marie Crimi
04/15/1923-4/22/2020
Marie Crimi of Port Orange, FL died on April 22th, 2020 at the age of 97. She passed away peacefully at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange. Marie is survived by her two sons, Rick and Phil Crimi and a Granddaughter Alyson Crimi. Two sister-in-laws, Madelyn Racioppi,(Roseland, NJ) and Ann Crimi, (Port Orange, Fl), along with several nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Florida.
Marie was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey before moving to Florida. After High School, she went to Comptometer school in Newark, NJ, (The first commercially successful key-driven mechanical calculator, patented in the United States by Dorr E. Felt in 1887). Then held several jobs, including Mrs. Wagner’s Pies, a Dairy, NuCar carriers and ARA Manufacturing, then retired from United Parcel Service in Rahway, NJ. All this while raising two boys, Phil and Rick (Daytona Bch/Port Orange), in Fords NJ.
She loved to cook all her Italian favorites and entertain a large family of relatives. When her sons moved to Florida, in the 70’s, she moved to Matawan, in a Retirement Community called Cheesequake Village, spending a lot of time with her dear friend Arthur Danitz. They did everything together and were best friends. She had so many friends there and loved to play cards, bingo, horse shoes, go to concerts at the Garden State Arts Center and was very active in the community including politics and worked the polling sites. She loved her jokes and could tell really good ones that drew laughs from all. She could make a Biker blush! We could never reach her by phone since she was so active there.
A little more than 3 years ago, she needed a new Aortic heart valve, so we moved her to Florida for the surgery, so she could be near immediate family and she recovered successfully. There she lived with her son, Rick in Port Orange, Fl. She loved to sit home and watch her favorite TV game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. The “Game Show” channel was her favorite. Her son’s friends all loved her as if she was their Mom. Then she went to live at Atria, an Independent Living Facility, where she had her own apartment, living next door to her Best Friend and Sister-in-Law, Ann Crimi. There she socialized with Ann all the other residents. She lived a very long and healthy life and that’s why we called her our “Energizer Bunny”! She kept going and going and going and was healthier that most, (never went to the Doctor!). She always made sure her hair was put up nightly and in the morning she dressed to the “T” with matching colorful outfits and jewelry that drew many compliments everywhere she went. She taught us all the value of “Coupons” and to this day, we all look for discounts!
She is predeceased by her sister Doris Walsh, (Bloomfield, NJ) her brothers, Nick (Newark, NJ) and Frank Racioppi (Roseland, NJ).
Due to Coronavirus, no service was held but hope to have a “Celebration of Life” for her, in the near future.
I remember visiting you and your Mom and Dad when you were young and lived in Newark on Roosevelt Avenue and First Avenue. That was a long time ago.
Your Grandmother, Mary and Grandfather, Frank were my Grandmother's Sister and brother-in-law. She was the twin to Aunt Jenny.
We would go to visit your Grands and play on the player piano. My brother, Anthony, and I loved it.
The families were close. Uncle Nick, Uncle Frank (he passed away so young) and Aunt Doris. We saw Aunt Maddy and one or two of her children not too long ago. She looks so well.
My Mother and siblings were first cousins to your Mom.
My Aunt Marie who is the youngest of the first cousins (and there were many) is still alive but living at a long term care facility in Bloomfield, NJ. She is now 81.
I thought of your Mom and had to google her name. The obituary came up.
Just know that we are thinking of you and glad to hear that your Mom, our cousin Marie, lived a good and full life. Thank you for taking care of her.
Your second cousin, JoAnne (Palomba) Polonsky, New Jersey
