Obituary
Marie “Winnie” Winefred Reid was born in Columbia, South Carolina on September 06, 1953 and was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Dannelly and Marie Louise Tutte Dannelly. She married her husband Kenneth Wayne Reid of 45 years in 1974.
In her college years, Winnie was a State Champion back stroke swimmer at University of South Carolina, winning many state records. She later followed her passion and spent the majority of her life teaching severely mentally and physically challenged students in the Lee County School system for 32 years as a Special Education teacher. She always had a special place in her heart for her students and also developed a “peer” counseling program that involved incorporating regular education students, which allowed for the development of life long bonds. Anyone that knew Winnie would agree she always cared more about others than herself.
Winnie was involved and supportive of her local church, Safe Harbor Community Church, where her husband was founder and pastor. She loved the Lord and when she found the time, in addition to ministering to individuals in the United States, she performed multiple trips across the world to spread the gospel to people in Jamaica, Russia, Australia, and China. In line with her loving and caring nature, these trips specifically focused on helping out the unfortunate and disabled people in need. She delivered thousands of dollars of medical equipment and provided support and unquantifiable love to hundreds of people around the world.
Winnie was the proud mother of four children: Christine Kilpatrick (Peter), Susan Reid, Stephen Reid (Angela), Garett Reid, and the grandmother of four grandchildren: Rebekah Kilpatrick, Joshua Kilpatrick, Elizabeth Kilpatrick, and Ryder Reid. She courageously, with Gods help, fought brain cancer for three years. Winnie went peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on March 31, 2020 surrounded by much of her family. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Reid, siblings: LaRaine Rose, Sheldon Dannelly (Margaret Waltz), Glenn Dannelly (Molly), Ruth Terrio (Ed), and Lois Nels (Mark), and all of her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a time to be determined at Safe Harbor Community Church in Fort Myers, Florida.
