Obituary
SORRENTO, FL – Marilyn Janet Gandenberger, 102, died at the home of her daughter, Christa, on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Marilyn was born in Hackensack, NJ to the late Clara Belle Lee and George Bean Baker. She was pre-deceased by an older brother, Justin.
She was married to Robert E. Gandenberger for 68 years until he passed away in 2014. They had four children: Eric (deceased), Kurt (Anderson, SC), Christa Gandenberger (Sorrento, FL), and Carol Krohn (Pendleton, SC). She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Elaine, and sons-in-law William Johnson and Dale Krohn (deceased).
After high school, Marilyn attended secretarial school. She worked as a secretary for much of her adult life, first for E.I. DuPont in NYC, later for her husband Bob’s publishing company.
Marilyn had a variety of interests and avocations, which contributed to her longevity. She was a church choir soloist, Sunday school teacher, church secretary, and served on the church board of directors. She was also a Meals on Wheels driver, cancer patient driver, PEO member, and enjoyed bridge, golf, and being a “do-it-yourselfer.” Her hobbies included arts and crafts, jigsaw puzzles, cryptograms, gardening, painting, sewing, and cooking.
Over the past few years, she regularly attended the Nassau Co. Council on Aging, where she enjoyed activities, friends, and staff.
She is survived by Kurt, Christa, and Carol; cousin Elizabeth Lee; niece Alison Baker; nephew Andrew Baker; granddaughter Jessie Bowers and her husband Andrew; grandson Austin Krohn and his wife Lindsey; great-grandchildren Ethan, Anna, Isaac, Asher, and Owen Bowers; great-grandchildren Eli, Elliott, and Ava Krohn; and best friend and caretaker Naomi Allen.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
